Accommodations & Adaptations for Sensory Impairments

Accommodations and adaptations are designed to improve access and participation in the curriculum. Accommodations and adaptations include:

  • Auslan
  • tactile signing
  • use of soundfield systems
  • use of Braille

  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices
  • Assistive Technology (AT) systems – e.g. iPads, Computers, Interactive Whiteboards, Talking Books, Alternative Keyboards, Audio Books and Publications, Speech Recognition Programs

  • tactile symbols
  • schedules - using visual images or tactile references
  • use of resources and computer programs modified for switch access
  • community access activities such as shopping, use of public transport and visits to community facilities
  • explicit teaching of activities of daily living
