Accommodations & Adaptations for Sensory Impairments
Accommodations and adaptations are designed to improve access and participation in the curriculum. Accommodations and adaptations include:
- Auslan
- tactile signing
- use of soundfield systems
- use of Braille
- concrete object symbols
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices
- Assistive Technology (AT) systems – e.g. iPads, Computers, Interactive Whiteboards, Talking Books, Alternative Keyboards, Audio Books and Publications, Speech Recognition Programs
- visual symbols
- tactile symbols
- schedules - using visual images or tactile references
- use of resources and computer programs modified for switch access
- community access activities such as shopping, use of public transport and visits to community facilities
- explicit teaching of activities of daily living
- Orientation and Mobility (O&M)
- Mobility Opportunities Via Education (MOVE)
